Genital Trauma

DESCRIPTION

This guideline covers injuries to the female or male genital area. Most are bruises (with swelling) or minor cuts that heal readily in 3 or 4 days.

HOME CARE

For minor cuts, wash the area vigorously with soap and water for 5 minutes. Then apply pressure for 10 minutes with a sterile gauze to stop bleeding. For swelling, apply ice for 20 minutes (if tolerated). (For additional information, see Skin Trauma. )

CALL YOUR CHILD'S PHYSICIAN IMMEDIATELY IF:

  • Your child has a genital injury.
